Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Hawkins Mutes different?

Each mute is designed from the ground up with a focus on sound color, tuning, and playability. We use materials and shapes that open up new sonic possibilities — tested by professional players before reaching your case.

Will your mutes fit my trumpet?

Our mutes are designed to fit standard Bb and C trumpets and cornets from major brands like Bach, Yamaha, Schilke, and others. For piccolo, or rotary trumpets, contact us to confirm fit.

Are your mutes suitable for orchestral, jazz, or solo playing?

Yes. Our mutes are designed for flexibility across styles. Let us know what you’re playing and we’ll help you choose the right model.

What are your mutes made of?

We use a combination of high-grade polymers, ABS, HDPE and PETG depending on the model — all crafted with precision tooling.

Do you make mutes for other brass instruments?

Yes — we currently offer models for trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn, French horn, tenor trombone, bass trombone and are constantly expanding the range. Have a request? Get in touch!

Are your mutes adjustable?

Some models, like our cup mutes, french horn straight mute, and harmons, include adjustable threaded sections. Product descriptions outline all adjustment features.

How do your mutes compare to metal mutes?

We focus on nuance, tone, and tuning — if you’ve found metal mutes a bit “aggressive”, you’ll hear the difference immediately with Hawkins Mutes.
